3 questions regarding armor (height, screw, ...)

Post by Saifai »

Hey,

i have 3 questions ;-)

#1 is a difference of the height of the front and backplate ok?

i know that there are so many variations of the armor, but asking does not hurt ^^

#2 Can the screw be silver or does it have to be black?

#3 the front plate was not trimed very well, it is a little bit oblique; does this matter or is it just a cosmetic thing?
I mean, you can see this only if you stand close enough...

You may want to try putting some plastic automotive edge trimming on the armor. It gives it a much cleaner look and can be purchased at any automotive store for cheap money.

my opinions (FWIW)

#1 - the front plate should pretty much line up with the back plate. Many of us use black elastic straps between the front and back at the bottom edge to keep things together. Use velcro to attach the straps so you can remove them if you need to.

#2 - I think most of us use a "chicago" style screw for the shoulder octagons so that they are free to rotate. Then you'll use a black plastic "screw cover" to cover the head of the chicago screw. I think the screws you are using there might not work out. You should also consider using Kai's rubber shoulder straps rather than the ABS ones, as the plastic will crack and fail eventually.

#3 - I think a little bit oblique will go unnoticed. A TK curve will definitely be a problem though but you should be good. The suggestion for rubber trim on the armor is a good one.

again, just my opinions.

ty for the infos

the problem is, that black elastic straps would Keep the front and back plate together but the difference in height still exists.

the front plate is about 2,5 Inch lower than the backplate

i did not see any pics of the side, so i cant say, if this difference is still ok or not

FWIW, I just painted my chicago screw heads with good ol' Humbrol gloss black enamel. It works quite well and is durable.

the only time the front plate is 3 inches lower than the backplate seems to be if it has slipped forward due to the weight of the chestbox. I use velcro on my shoulder straps to keep them attached at the top of my shoulders and keep the back plate riding low. You might try the same . . .

Yes Chicago screws are the way to go I also used tiny o rings to keep the octogon from moving nothing is worse than seeing a crooked octogon in a picture. I then used appliance touch up enamel on the head of the screw post it is found in the paint section of any hardware stor and is in a small bottle like nail polish. I would try to even out the bottom of the chest plate and the farm all the armor with auto trim to hide any fugly trim spots. As for armor even ness it's going to shift even with the side straps I took my voice amp out and it seemed to help. Hope this helps

#1 Is the rubber trim on the armor allowed and crl compliant?

I have found these:

I think number 6826 would work pretty well because it is not thick/big on the front.

#2 I have found a style of screws which might be good, too. Here an example (it should be black ofc...)

What do you think?
