Starting on the armor

Post by KellwolfB6 »

So, I got my helmet the other day, and the very next day a box from Tambo arrived with my armor and chest box!!

Marked out the armor and shoulder straps for trimming:

Here they are after trimming:

Also sanded them down since I plan on painting them gloss black. The black ABS wasn't shiny enough on its own. Tomorrow, I'll cut the octagons out. Need to track down some Chicago screws as well. Since I'm shooting to have all this done for a troop next month, I'm attaching them with snaps and elastic so the ABS shoulder straps don't have to support the weight. Hoping to swap that for rubber shoulder straps down the road. Plan is to have the elastic take the weight and have the ABS shoulders "float" on top and velcroed down in the back TK style.

Thanks. I just hope I know what I'm doing. :)

Added the snaps to the front and back armor.

Elastic snap on straps done. Front and back as they stand right now. Probably going to put a 1" removable elastic band on the sides as well.

I think I've got them about the right spot, but not 100% sure. The shoulders for perfectly at this height, and it's mostly a straight line across from the back to front. Slight gap between the armor and myself, but I guess that's to be expected if it wasn't custom bent to me. Thoughts?

yeah that looks about right. I use a piece of 1" wide black elastic to connect the front and back pieces on either side. I use velcro to attach in case I need to remove them for a "canon" event.

That's exactly what I was thinking of doing. I've got extra Velcro AND snaps. Just trying to figure out which one I would rather go with. Velcro would certainly be more adjustable.
